Are you looking for cheap hotels in Glasgow city centre? Then we have you covered. We know that city breaks are an exciting change from the traditional lazy beach holiday, but we also know that they’re expensive! Great food, taxis, entrance fees, it adds up. And as ever, the biggest expense is accommodation. But it doesn’t need to be! We trawled the web so you don’t have to, and compiled a list of the ten best cheap hotels in Glasgow city centre that won’t break the bank. All based on what visitors like you, had to say about their stays.

1. The Z Hotel Glasgow , 36 North Frederick Street

First up, and a steal at £54 a night, we have The Z Hotel. Right off George Square, and only a minute’s walk from Queen Street Station, you’ll find the Z Hotel in one of the city centre’s many beautiful sandstone buildings. Inside, though, there isn’t a hint of 19th-century decor. In fact, this hotel is chic as can be, with exposed brick walls, parquet flooring, and a full bar. And forget packet shortbread and sachets of instant coffee, at The Hotel Z guests arrive to cheese and wine! This ‘nice twist’ hasn’t gone unnoticed by reviewers, and neither has the hotel’s amazing location, which Graham S refers to as ‘Perfect for exploring Glasgow on the open-topped bus routes, for dining out and for the shops’. Another reviewer noting that ‘The location of Z Hotel is optimal’. If you’re in Glasgow to soak up the inner-city atmosphere, then Hotel Z could certainly be the place for you!

2. Holiday Inn Express Glasgow City Centre Riversidе , Stockwell Street

One of the larger hotel brands in the city centre, Holiday Inn comes highly recommended by its customers and is known for its low prices. The Holiday Inn Express Glasgow City Centre Riverside is located on Stockwell Street and lives up to the brand’s reliability and rooms for as little as £68. Suzanne quote Glasgow’s motto in her review, saying, ‘“People make Glasgow” well the staff make this one of the best Holiday Inns that I have stayed in.’ And, while that is classic Glasgow hospitality, other reviewers note that ‘staff were lovely and helpful’ and, ‘the staff are very friendly’. Hard to argue with all of that! And this hotel’s proximity to Merchant City allows you to be close to some of the city’s best restaurants and entertainment, without going into the red.

3. Point A Hotel Glasgow, 80 Bath Street

Also notable for its central location is Point A Hotel on Bath Street. Across the pedestrianised shopping haven of Buchanan Street from George Square, Bath Street is packed full of bars, music venues and even clubs. There are also amazing dining options a stone’s throw from Point A, including the city centre iteration of Glasgow seafood institution, Two Fat Ladies. Bath Street is definitely a great option for bright lights and late nights! Rooms at Point A are compact, as expected in Glasgow city centre hotel, but bright, clean and well equipped with thoughtful extras like ambient lighting and lockers. All pretty amazing for as low as £39 a night. Guests also report excellent cleanliness and a solid amount of storage space. Point A would be particularly suited to business travellers, or those who want to experience Glasgow’s incredible nightlife.

4. Best Western Glasgow City Hotel, 27 Elmbank Street

At a similar price point, if booked ahead (£53 through was the best price we saw), Best Western Glasgow City is particularly notable for its proximity to the King’s Theatre, as well as the availability of family rooms. On the western side of the city centre, this hotel would suit visitors who also wanted to explore Glasgow’s wonderful west end and perhaps enjoy a slightly slower pace. This makes the hotel a good option for families, as well as theatre-goers. In addition, one reviewer noted that the hotel had a ‘fantastic bed’. So presumably a great night’s sleep will be had by all at the Best Western Glasgow City Centre!

5. Artto Hotel, 37-39 Hope Street

Our next pick, Artto Hotel, is extremely conveniently located beside Glasgow Central Station. This means that visitors have the chance not only to easily explore Glasgow but also to hop on a train to other parts of Scotland for day trips or hikes. The hotel also boasts an Indian restaurant, which means a chance to try the UK’s favourite adopted cuisine! Artto also advertises its bilingual staff, which should be helpful for guests from non-English-speaking countries. A double room at the Artto Hotel will set you back around £65.

6. Premier Inn Glasgow City – George Square, 187 George Street

One of several Premier Inn locations throughout Glasgow, George Square is the most central. Price-wise it’s dead even with Best Western and has a very similar location to Hotel Z, and so guests seem particularly pleased with its locations. The Premier Inn is notable for its business centre, making it, logically, a good choice for business travellers! The hotel’s meal deal is also commented on often for its value for money. The hotel is described as ‘no frills’, but once again service is commended, with Linda W noting that when she and her husband visited for their anniversary celebration ‘we got talking to two staff members and told them and the next thing they presented us with a bottle of prosecco and a box of chocolates.’ So, apparently staff really go out of their way to please at this Premier Inn, and at £53 per night, it is an excellent option.

7. Rennie Mackintosh Hotel – Central Station, 59 Union Street

Named for one of Glasgow’s most famous architects, and in some ways the biggest exports, the Rennie Mackintosh Station Hotel is also located extremely close to Central Station. It’s the cheapest of our selection, coming in at an incredible £45, but that doesn’t mean you’re losing out on comfort or facilities. In fact, a breakfast described by many visitors to the hotel as ‘excellent’ is included in the room price and served in the Mackintosh inspired dining room. A notable downside to this hotel is its lack of a lift, which makes it unsuitable for anyone who isn’t very mobile.

8. ibis Glasgow City Centre, 220 West Regent Street

A recognisable name, Glasgow’s city centre – Hotel Ibis, has great reviews and comes in at £90-110 per night. Rooms are described, by Muizii, as ‘small but cosy’, and good soundproofing is mentioned by more than one reviewer. The breakfast seems to be a particular draw for this one of the best cheap hotels in Glasgow City Centre, with the complimentary breakfast buffet including hot food, extending even to Scottish staples like tattie scones and haggis (and you haven’t visited Scotland until you’ve tried tattie scones, haggis, black pudding, and if you’re feeling adventurous, pizza crunch!) It should be noted that the check-in desk for this Ibis is the bar. Don’t let that confuse you on your way in!

9. Alexander Thomson Hotel, 320 Argyle Street

Interestingly enough, the Mackintosh isn’t the only central Glasgow hotel named after an architect! Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson famously revived neo-classicism in Scotland and was responsible for many of Glasgow’s most striking crescents and churches. A hotel named for him, the Alexander Thomson Hotel, is located on Argyle Street. Again, this is a location close to stations, and also the River Clyde. A ten-minute walk will take you into the shopping, bar, or theatre districts. Breakfast is included in the £51 room price. The decor is striking, a modern twist on traditional Scottish, with tartan and dark wood abundant in the common areas of the building. Rooms are ample size, and many guests note the quality of the televisions in their reviews! Given the price and the room size, the Thomson might be an excellent choice for a longer stay or a family.

10. Brunswick Merchant City Hotel, 106-108 Brunswick Street

Brunswick Hotel Merchant City sits at the heart of Glasgow’s art and cultural centre, Merchant City, one of the grander areas of an already grand city. Due to its location, this Glasgow hotel would be perfect for a weekend break or any celebratory getaway. Prices for a room vary hugely depending on whether or not you book ahead online. We found deals from as little as £42 a night to as much as £240. Guests comment on the ‘bijou’ rooms, as well as the excellent tapas and cocktails at the hotel’s restaurant. That certainly sounds like a way to celebrate in style!

So, whether you’re a culture vulture in town for art and theatre, a business traveller, or setting out on an adventurous family vacation, these cheap hotels in Glasgow city centre have an affordable option perfect for you. Just be sure to book ahead and, as always, search out deals. Enjoy your time in Glasgow, and spend all that extra cash you have to hand well!
